To communicate successfully in Spanish, even as a beginner, you need to master the numbers.
Numbers come up virtually in every topic of conversation from shopping to traveling, eating out, sightseeing or socializing.
The great difficulty that numbers present is that, unlike other words, they can't be guessed or deduced from the context. In other words, you either understand them, or you don't. It's sad but true.
Every lesson in this Spanish for Beginners course comes with an interactive movie to help you learn or review a new set of numbers. Here I'm going to focus on how to master them fast and efficiently using those lessons.
An important thing to bear in mind when you're learning the numbers is that you'll need to go through every movie many times. No matter how good or bad your memory is, mastering the numbers requires a lot of practice over a period of time. There are no real shortcuts.
So, how do you actually get to master the Spanish numbers? Here's the technique I recommend to you:
First you have to learn numbers 0 to 25 well. Without those numbers you won't be able to master the rest, no matter how hard you try.
Ideally you should learn no more than one set of new numbers per day, that's usually five new numbers. If you have time left at the end of your study session, don't be tempted to start a new number movie but rather review the old ones. Far from slowing you down, doing so will help you master the numbers even faster.
Once you've learned numbers 0 to 25 well, you need to focus on understanding them fast. The Lesson 7 number movie is designed to help you do just that. If Lesson 7 is too hard at first, go through the Lesson 6 number movie instead until you can get all the numbers right. Both lessons have the same questions, but in Lesson 6 you can control the speed!
Now that you've mastered numbers 0 to 25, the rest are going to be much easier to learn.
The numbers you need to focus on now are:
30 40 50 60 70 80 90 101
From now on all the new numbers you're going to come across contain those plus the numbers you've already mastered (0 to 25).
