How do I actually manage to improve my Spanish pronunciation?
Here are 10 useful tips. I will develop these tips in my next few posts.
- Learn the alphabet well. If you do and stick to it every time, you’ll have won 90% of the battle.
- Use audio material frequently: language courses, audiobooks, radio, TV, etc. Everything counts.
- Read your audio extracts out loud along with the native speaker. To improve fast, do it often and regularly.
- Practise saying out loud common everyday words. Remember to apply the Spanish pronunciation golden rules to all of them.
- Practise saying long words like aeropuerto, mayonesa, recomienda, descafeinado, teléfono, etc.
- Practise running words together: la_habitación, los_servicios, en_una_hamaca, and any others you come across or find difficult to say.
- Do dictations to isolate your main comprehension problems. Comprehension and pronunciation problems are closely related.
- Use talking dictionaries to check the pronunciation of all the new words you learn.
- Once you can say a tricky word or phrase correctly, say it once more with confidence and out loud.
- Whenever possible, try to learn from native speakers.
