In my experience as a Spanish language teacher, you can learn vocabulary and grammar faster with cd-roms than with most other methods. Rosetta Stone is particularly good for beginners and refreshers. It's also one of the best choices if you want to have a good accent.
The reason why my students like Rosetta Stone so much is because it makes learning Spanish fun and interesting. It motivates you to go on, even when you make many mistakes in the activities, and it makes it easy to review the material that has come up in previous lessons.
Many other Spanish language courses don’t reuse words and sentences from previous lessons, so you tend to forget most of what you learn. Rosetta Stone is very different in that sense. It views the language as a whole and connects new words with the ones you know in order to make the learning process seamless.
Rosetta Stone is also a very efficient method for developing a good Spanish accent. One of its best features is allowing you to hear both individual words and whole sentences again and again by simply clicking on them. This saves you a lot of time and helps you focus on the sounds you're having trouble with.
Another feature my students like about it is that the grammar is introduced gradually, not with lists of verbs or unclear explanations about gender and other topics. There are always plenty of examples whenever a grammar point is made, and you get plenty of opportunity to practise it.
Rosetta Stone Spanish gives you the choice between Latin American and Castilian Spanish, and both courses have three levels. As a bonus, you can get free 2-day shipping on all the Rosetta Stone packages.
