Spanish grammar
In this lesson we're going to learn how to build the plural of nouns and describing words ending in a consonant. First, let's review how the plural of nouns and describing words ending in a vowel works.
We've seen many examples of this. Do you remember, for instance: las maletas, las patatas, los servicios, los mariscos, las sardinas, las tortillas, los euros, los baños. They are all plural forms of nouns ending in a vowel. La maleta - las maletas, la patata - las patatas, el servicio - los servicios, and so on. So, all you have to do to build the plural of nouns ending in a vowel is add an 's'. The same happens with describing words. In previous dialogs we've seen words like: fritas and asadas. They're the plural of frita and asada. All they have is an extra 's': frita - fritas, asada - asadas.
To build the plural of nouns and describing words ending in a consonant, all you need to do is add an 'es'. We've already seen some examples of this. Do you remember the word 'las habitaciones'? 'Las habitaciones' is the plural of 'la habitacion', the room. In lesson 9 we say the describing word 'grises', gray in the plural. The singular of 'grises' is 'gris'.
Exercise: can you tell me the plural of these five nouns and describing words? I'll say each one twice: el salón - los salones, principal - principales, central - centrales, el melón - los melones, el congelador - los congeladores.
