Spanish grammar
In this lesson we're going to learn how to put together nouns and describing words in the plural. In lesson six we learned how to put together nouns and describing words in the singular. We saw examples like: el correo electrónico, la ensalada mixta, el pollo asado, el café solo.
Let's pick one of these phrases: 'el pollo asado', for example, 'el pollo asado'. To build this phrase in the plural we need to put all three words in the plural. The plural of 'el' is 'los', the plural of pollo is 'pollos' and the plural of 'asado' is 'asados'. So, 'el pollo asado' in the plural is 'los pollos asados'.
Lets's see another example. 'La habitación individual'. The plural of 'la' is 'las'. The plural of 'habitación' is 'habitaciones'. As we saw in lesson 10 the plural of nouns ending in a consonant takes an 'es', so 'habitación' becomes 'habitaciones'. The same happens with the describing word 'individual', which becomes 'individuales'. So, 'la habitación individual' in the plural is 'las habitaciones individuales'.
Exercise: can you tell me these three phrases in the plural: el pimiento verde - los pimientos verdes, the green peppers; el melón pequeño - los melones pequeños, the small melons; la televisión gris - las televisiones grises, the gray televisions.
