Spanish grammar
Today we're going to learn more about the little word 'de'. This word often translates as 'of' or 'from'. Here we're going to focus on the word 'de' when it indicates possession.
In today's dialog we've heard, for instance: la piscina de los niños, meaning 'the children's swimming pool'.
We've also heard: las instrucciones del apartamento, the instructions for the apartment, or the apartment instructions.
In Spanish, to indicate that one thing belongs to another or to a person, you link the thing owned and its owner with the word 'de': la piscina de los niños, las instrucciones del apartamento.
Here are other examples we've heard in previous dialogs: los armarios de las habitaciones - the bedroom wardrobes, un filete de vaca - a beef steak, vino tinto de la casa - house red wine, la llave de mi habitación - my room key.
Let's practise using the word 'de'. How would you say these five phrases?: the washing machine instructions - las instrucciones de la lavadora . My friend's blanket - la manta de mi amigo. My friend's name - el nombre de mi amigo. The bathroom towel - la toalla del baño. And finally, the apartment phone - el teléfono del apartamento.
