Summary of clusters with exactly the same sound:

  • BA, BE, BI, BO, BU: sound exactly like VA, VE, VI, VO, VU.
  • CA, QUE, QUI, CO, CU: sound just like KA, KE, KI, KO, KU.
  • CE, CI: sound exactly like ZE, ZI (although these last two clusters are uncommon in Spanish). In Latin America and the south of Spain they also sound exactly like SE, SI.
  • GE, GI sound exactly like JE, JI.
  • HA, HE, HI, HO, HU: sound exactly like A, E, I, O, U.
  • LLA, LLE, LLI, LLO, LLU: sound exactly like YA, YE, YI, YO, YU.
  • The single "r" at the beginning of a word and after "l", "s" and "n" sound exactly like the RR.
  • In Latin America and the south of Spain SA, SE, SI, SO, SU sound exactly like ZA, ZE, ZI, ZO, ZU  and CE, CI.
